Cutting It Close!featured

I can’t believe our vacation is just about here…we leave tomorrow!

No, I haven’t packed yet, but that’s nothing out of the norm. I went to a Cubs game on Saturday and came home with a sinus infection. It seems to be passing quickly and hopefully it stays out of my chest and I’m not coughing up my lungs on the 13.5 hour drive to NYC.

Anyways.

We leave tomorrow night (technically Thursday morning) around 3:00am. It’s a pretty straight line from Chicago to New Jersey (where our hotel is), passing straight through Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. We’ll get to our hotel in Jersey around 7:00pm and probably order take out from a local Chinese or pizza place and watch the Ugly Betty finale in the hotel because we’ll probably be wiped.

We planned on doing a guided tour in NYC, but ultimately decided not to. We’re from a big city as-is, so we’re comfortable in a big city setting and we’re comfortable with public transportation.

The biggest thing I wanted out of our trip to NYC was to go see a broadway show. I grew up singing in show choirs and broadway music played such a role in my childhood and teenage years. I wanted to see the Lion King, Mom wanted to see South Pacific and Stephanie wanted to see West Side Story. I think we’re seeing Hair (Steph’s calling for tickets as I type), which definitely works for me!

I have a list of places I want to go and things I want to see (among them being the WTC, Top of the Rock, South Street Seaport, Dylan’s Candy Bar, Central Park, Strawberry Fields, the Dakota Building, Times Square, Alice’s Tea Cup and 5th Avenue). I also want to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, and we’re definitely making a stop at Tiffany’s so I can get a new bauble because the one on our last trip was closed (I’m still mourning the closing of Tiffany & Co. in St. Maarten) and it’s more fun than buying at home.

I’m not sure if I’ll live blog from the boat or NYC (if I can figure out how to do it on my iPhone), but the review starts as soon as we get home…and get ready for that one because it’ll have more pictures than the last 😉
